Cellulite 'cure' could be on sale in UK in months
November 10, 1998 Health

An anti-cellulite treatment which has caused stampedes in Australia is expected to be launched in the UK in the new year.

The treatment, sold under the name Cellasene in Australia, is a herbal remedy combining red clover and evening primrose oil.

Italian manufacturer Medestea Interna claims it 'nourishes the tissue and skin from within', preventing the formation of cellulite.

When the results of clinical trials were shown on Australian television recently, there were stampedes and fights among shoppers anxious for the 'miracle' cure.

Each box costs £20 and lasts for 20 days. The dietary supplement is designed to be taken twice a day for up to eight weeks.

Medestea Interna is hoping to launch the treatment in the UK by March.

Boots

The treatment, which is sold under different names in different countries, is already on sale in France, Switzerland, Greece, New Zealand and in countries on the Pacific Rim.

However, the UK has stricter regulations on selling such products and requires controlled clinical trials.

Boots the chemist is considering selling it, but is waiting for the results of controlled trials.

These are expected to be ready by the end of December.
